Current Newspapers Preserving current newspapers is a core component of the Oregon Digital Newspaper Program. ODNP works directly with publishers to add their digital issues to Historic Oregon Newspapers for research access and long-term digital preservation. Each publisher must decide whether or not they want to participate in the digital program; current newspapers will only be added to Historic Oregon Newspapers with permission and participation from publishers. There is a free service for publishers, and all content on Historic Oregon Newspapers is freely available to the public at no cost. In the past, the University of Oregon Libraries preserved Oregon newspapers on microfilm. Due to increased costs associated with microfilming equipment and supplies, in addition to the increasing demand for digital access to current newspapers, the microfilming service ended in 2015, and the program shifted to a born-digital preservation model. Newspapers published in 2015 and beyond from participating publishers are available via Historic Oregon Newspapers. FAQ: Current Newspapers Documentation Participating Newspapers
