Can’t find the historic Oregon newspaper you’re looking for? Likely it is waiting for someone like you to fund its digitization!
The Oregon Digital Newspaper Program was created to coordinate the digitization of historic Oregon newspapers by outside organizations for inclusion in ODNP. Our hope is to become a single resource to freely search for historic Oregon newspapers. By partnering in ODNP, the UO Libraries will provide the following:
- Project estimates
- Copyright research
- Scanning and/or digital photography
- Cropping page images
- Organizing page images into folders by issue and date
- Running each page through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to ensure keyword searchability
- Adding metadata to every page image
- Performing quality checks throughout
- Hosting the issues in Historic Oregon Newspapers, our free online database
- Providing long-term digital preservation of the page images on University of Oregon servers.
